Does anyone make a 40 or 41 caliber hollow based WC mould? I've been wondering how one would perform when fired out of a brass case using a small charge of pistol powder. This would be used without a wad. It would be loaded using computer generated data and the pressure would be kept bellow 11,000 PSI. If I can put this together.

Hello JimKim, I personally do not have a .410, but since yesterday the moment I saw your post I started thinking and here is a bullet that should fit in a wad:

Federal use to make a hollow point slug for .410, perhaps you can find some!

I would also try loading OO buck shot, five or six balls in wad, for an effective home defence load, good for short range, but very effective load to 20 to 25 yards with a dense pattern.
For the Buckshot load, I would use 15 gr of 2400 for 5 or 6 balls of OO in a 3 inch hull with a nitro card in wad, just below the OO buck shot to give it a good solid base foundation!

I think LongBow or Turbo can be of much more help to you.
You have a great day!

What gave me the idea was a buddy in FL is loading 9mm HPs/410 shells in a 410 H&R. He is getting pretty good accuracy out to fifty yards. He puts a filler under the 9mm bullet until it is at the right height and just loads it in the shell. A little boy has taken one buck, and own wild turkey with that load. He shot the turkey in the head.

I have been experimenting with something similar in a sawed off 410 Savage model 24. I have been necking 444 marlin brass down in a 40 S&W die and seating Lee 175gr TC's in them. I'm using 44-40 Red Dot data rated at less than 10,000psi. I think SAAMI max for the 44-40 is 13000psi. So far I'm averaging 730fps with very little deviation. The problem is, the necks split after three loads.

At some point I'd like to build a rifle for this cartridge and see what it could really do.

i saw where someone took a 41 mag cast 210 semi wadcutter, turned it around backwards, glued the nose into a ballistic products stump wad and made a decent looking breneke type slug.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PiEtVcODh7s they think its cutting edge, seems to be novice stuff here, but if it works... it works.

I found this. http://www.mattsbullets.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=282
IDK if it will work, but I think it might be worth a try.

does your gun have a choke? all mine are full choked and measure .395 at the muzzle.

a 400 round ball would be just right for my stuff.

Yes it does have a choke. My nephew's doesn't though. His is sawed off.

I thought about finding a splined sleeve and pushing my Lee 401-175-TC through it. The splines would allow the slug to more easily conform to the choke. I might make a knurling tool instead.

I seen this post and as for usen OO buck shot I just replace the regular shot with OO buckshot and I do that in 2 1/2" hulls and use wads and they are good for 20 yards with about a 7" spread and if you go 15 yards you get a 5" spread . and if I can think right now of that it takes 4 OO in a 2 1/2" . I cast my own shot that size and if you do that make sure you roll them because of where you cut the spur off you will not have a patteren , but after you roll them you have one . I try it out to see what happeneds and that is what I found out . Hope this will help someone if have anything else to to ask just let me know Thank you

a single 390 diameter round ball is what i plan on loading for my 410 slugs. conicals are either too unstable for smoothbore or not any heavier than regular foster slugs.
