I picked up a neat mold off E-bay last year that might interest a few of you. Its a single cavity made by Shilo products, and is stamped D 512. It casts a 390 grain full wadcutter, at .512". After undoing the former owners abuse, it casts beautiful bullets, and out of my custom shorty (6-1/2") 50-70 Contender, it will shoot well under 1" at 50 yds. when I do my part. I also thought it may interest any .500 Linebaugh owners looking for something different to try.

Didn't one of these just sell on ebag for $1000?

I have one of Veral's .510 diameter, 325 grain OWC that I used in my 8" .50-70 Contender and .500 L. It did great. Lighter than your WC, but a little better shape - IMHO.

1,000 bucks, you say, Hmmm. well I guess I'm not that fond of it! I'm pretty sure I got it for 20-something bucks, and the way it casts and shoots, I'm very happy. When I got this Contender, I just wanted to try as many diferent molds as possible. I did end up with 2 of Verals molds, a 400 LFN and 470 WFN, both are excellent, as I now expect of Verals stuff. Neither outshoot this wadcutter though. Trailboss powder has been great in this gun too.

dubber123;
How 'bout some particulars on those Trailboss loads? I sure know what Trailboss is, but have never used it. Thinking about getting some, though, for the .38-55 and a few other calibers. Also, a friend asked me about it in his H&R in .500 S&W. Thats a lot like the .50-70 in case capacity, I should think. Not the same, but similar!
Thanks.

I was given the following formula by IMR, for straight wall cases only, with Trailboss. Mark the bullet base seating depth on your case, fill to where your bullet base will be and weigh this charge, 70% of this weight will be your START charge. Work up as usual, but never compress Traiboss, really changes the burn rate. I used this formula for several different cartridges, and it works great. Loads for my T/C. 50-70, (5" actual bbl length).: 15.0 grs, 400 gr. LBT, vel= 950 fps. 11.0 grs. 390 gr. Shilo wadcutter, vel=900, 15.0 grs, 435 gr.Lee, vel=868 fps. All will shoot under 1" at 50 yds. with practice. LBT blue soft lube in all.

what a thumping whitetail bullet that would make!
