Slugged my bore yesterday in my 45 ACP and checked it with my mics and it came out .4497, seems pretty tight to me should I be sizing my boolits down to .451 or keep them at .452 like I have them now? How tight is the bore on yalls 45 handguns?

My Smith 1911 slugs a little over 450 so I shoot 452 boolits in it. My Taurus 1911 slugs out at almost 452 so I size at 453 or 454 for it. I tried 452 in my Taurus got a little leading. But the 453 or 454 sized boolits shoot better and there is no leading at all. They both like the noe bd 45 mold.

Aaron you should be good with the bullets I sent you. When shooting cast I have found (thanks to this board....) that .001-.002 over what you slug gives me the best performance and zero leading.

The single biggest issue I"ve had with learning to shoot cast was that I always thought the bullets should be equal to or less than bore diameter which is simply NOT true -- this is exactly what leads to excessive leading in the bore.

Make SURE you are using SOFT lead to slug your bore -- I got given some pure lead by a member here when I first joined and since then I've found that if I need more I go down to the local bait store with my Mic and get some of those oblong fishing weights that are a little bigger than what I want to slug -- they work great.

Start your loads on the low end and work your way up always.

.451 or .452 should work just fine.

Yes I used what I belive to be pure lead I actually cast a boolit from it and used it to slug the bore. I was just curious if they ran tight or if mine was a freak of nature.
