My Gew88 has a pretty small bore for 8mm (.3165). It's a Czech barrel. I'm thinking of casting around 319. So far I have just a collection of Lee sizer dies. I have a Lee 314 sizer. Would .005 be too much to attempt to take off? I'm thinking a Lee custom at 319 may be easier. Besides, I can save the 314 for my 1922 Izzy.

I had an oversized marlin 44 mag rifle a while back, and I opened up a Lee sizing die to .433. I don't recall offhand if it was initially .429 or .430. It worked fine.

I lapped out my Lyman .314 to .317.
You should have no trouble.

I'd recommend you don't lap out your sizer dies more than .875"
Because you get into the threads... :holysheep

I lapped out my 30 cal from .309 to .3105.
That is .002" over my slug from my bore (.3085")

Thanks guys. I'll file that knowledge away. After reaming it out some last night I decided to order a custom size from Lee. I'll save this one for my Mosin casting once I decide on a mold.

I took a Lee .285 out to .302 in about 30 minutes.

I had a "Buckshot" sizer die in .265"
I honed that out to .269"
it took well over an hour, BUT most of that time
was the constant cleanup and installing the die into a press and checking it by
sizing a boolit. I bet I checked it 10 times before I called it good.

PS. check with "Buckshot" for a custom sizer die before you order one from Lee.
Quicker turnaround time and a better product IMHO !
