Today the wind was blowing out of the North at 40 MPH
No good for the canoe and duck hunting

So, went to the reloading shed and cleaned off some Hollywood presses

Very nice, although they need some cleaning. That Model-A on the right may be one of 100. I have a similar Model-B.

Here are three of mine after cleaning.

Too bad you don't have a Super Turret, I'd buy it off you.

Skeetx, Three's a crowd. The Model B Special would look good next to my two Model B's.

Have you been in Amarillo long enough to remamber a place called the Crystal Pistol?

Kevin, is the one on the right my old press? If so, it looks nice and
right at home.

OK. Here is my latest acquisition. The large dies are for 12 guage, of which I have no idea how to use / adjust. No instructions, compounded by the fact I never loaded a shotshell in over 30 years of metallic cartridge reloading. :groner: Anyone out there have instructions for Hollywood shotshell dies?

Very nice presses guys!

Sure makes me wish they were still being made.

Thanks for sharing.

Ebay always has some available. There are three Senior Turrets there now.

Yeah but . . . .

Is it my imagination, or had the coinage required to assume ownership of said presses about tripled in the last few months? I want to say these were going between 2 and 3 bills only late last year, but perhaps the memory is going.

I picked up a Senior (no turret) in Birmingham AL last fall for $65. Made my day.

They've been going up in both interest and price, due mainly to forums such as this one. People who weren't even born when these fine presses were made are now discovering them. There are some people making shellholders and priming arms for them now, so that helps, too.

I've always said my Hollywood Senior press that I bought used in 1963 was going to the grave with me, but now I've got two of them, so the coffin is going to have to be even bigger...... And stronger!

Hope this helps.

It depends on what accompanies the press. If a Senior Turret alone is for sale, they have in the past gone for around $350. But if it has goodies, expect to pay $500+. Their appearance also has alot to do w/ the final price. And savvy buyers should bid according to whether the press is steel (desirable) or aluminum (not as desirable).

I have picked some some really rusted presses really cheap that cleaned up and now look and work like new, so the appearance of one of these old presses has *nothing* to do w/ their real value.

There is still one Senior Turret for sale that is the press alone and is almost at $500. It is of recent manufacture. Unfortunately for the bidders, it is missing the tie bar (they will need a machinist to replace it) and the die holes are 7/8x14 only (no 1 1/2x12 .50BMG die holes).

The last three Senior Turrets sold for $565-636, which is alot.

You got a DEAL on that Senior. I paid $250 for mine and was happy I got it for that price.

Hollywood Senior story: A troll on another site bitched about how worthless they are and how he had one serving as a doorstop. He said they were only useful as boat anchors and that's what he planned to do with it. I told him I would buy any and all Hollywood presses and parts he had and he could name his price. That was a year ago and I am still waiting for a reply. :coffee:

My Hollywood press collection as of today. Actually I no longer own the repainted Junior, I sold it when I picked up one with most of its original paint. Need to delete some old pictures so I can post more.

Ken,

Is that a Model-II or Model-III in the lower left-hand corner? It has an unusual topknot.

I may know someone with a steel Super Turret, but I can't get him to return my call or email. And it is within driving distance. Arghh!

Kevin, it is a Model B, the top knots are the same on each press, depends on veiwing angle. As soon as I figure out how to get more picture space I will post a picture of the original Universal.

An original Universal, this is where the first hollywoods came from. There are some differences. It uses a different shellholder, of a type I have not yet located. The primer punch automaticly tips forward at teh bottom of the stroke and there are two "ears" to adjust turret swing.

Pressman,
Thaks for the pictures

I have an idea !!!

The rams from an RCBS JR. press, not the shell holders but the RAM, may be of the proper diameter, just get one and cut it off and tighten it in the ram receiver.
OR also you could use an OLD pacific ram of the correct case head.

Please measure the diameter of the ram receiver hole.

What caliber would you use the press for if you could get a shell holder?

Skeettx, the Universal takes a shellholder with a 7/8" diameter shank. Pacific type rams used by RCBS and everyone else are about 3/4".
I have a fairly good collection of odd ball shellholders but nothing like this. The only shellholder that I have yet to try to adapt to it is a Meepos. It "might" work.

Yes, OK
The RCBS ram is .810
http://i1086.photobucket.com/albums/j452/skeettx/MVC-013S.jpg
The press mounted priming die is .866
http://i1086.photobucket.com/albums/j452/skeettx/MVC-014S.jpg

Still not .875 but getting closer.

Maybe a thin 7/8x 14 nut on the top threads and also on the bottom threads to tighten
into the press and coke can shiming for the sides of the priming die will center it :)

Good luck

You are right Tim, they have doubled in the last year.

Put me right out of the market.

I just inherited this one:
http://i1120.photobucket.com/albums/l481/goodsteel/IMG_2064.jpg
It has a hollywood micrometer powder throw on top. I dont know how well it works, but it looks like they built it for their great, great, grand-kids!
