It doesn't dry out, and it doesn't promote rust. It IS slick, so you generally have to go up 5-10 gr. for 50+ calibers to get pressure/velocity/grouping back vs a spit patch.

For Deer hunting I have a tin of bear grease. It is a 50/50 blend of bear grease and bees wax. I don't see any reason why mink oil would not work well, just try it before you take it hunting and see if you need to bump your load up.

Best wishes,

It shouldn't migrate into the powder and may protect the bore from rust.

If you have a Red Wing shoe store nearby, they sell a Mink oil/Lanolin mix for treating shoe leather. I haven't had a chance to try the can I bought yet, but I see no reason it shouldn't do a great job. A bit softer than ToTW's Mink oil.

I use a Lanolin based lube for BPCR, I bet mixing it with mink oil would work wonders for a PRB. I some how managed to loose my tin of bear grease, so I am going to have to try and find more or find something else.

Best wishes,

Joe
