I see on Ebay that the old Mossberg scopes M4C and M4D are selling between 150-180 $ . They were orignal for the old 140's -1950's Mossberg .22 cal rifles . They look period correct for my Uberti Low Wall in 38-40 and they have internal windage and elevation adjustments . Do you think they would take the recoil of the 38-40 BP load ?

I think that they would take plain base loads with 180 gr or less bullets.

I agree with frnkeore. Personally I would feel comfortable with even a little heaver load. Is your low wall drilled and tapped? I have used GSG-5 scope mounts to mount scopes on a low wall that was original and not tapped. I just did not want to tap an original.

I'am using a Lyman mould with 20:1 that casts a 175 gr. bullet . This was the orignal Lyman mould for this caliber . No, my Uberti is not drilled and tapped . I will tap the barrel only , I will not tap the receiver . With about 35 grains of 2F there is not much recoil but alot more than a .22cal . These old scopes are auctioning for a premium price theses days ? But they look period . No warrantity your taking a chance . I just missed a bid on an old Mossberg M4D scope that went on Ebay for 162.00 $ . 60 years old and 4x about 13.5 " long . Still had the orignal rubber eye cup . If I buy one I'll make or buy the reducers and use 1 " rings reduced to 3/4 " . I could buy a leatherwood Malcom China made for 279.00 $ But I really do not want to deal with the external adjustments .
