I searched a couple different times but didn't find what I was looking for. Ordering casting equipment for my mosin nagants. Going with Lee 312 mold and sizer die. Would I have to use the 8mm gas checks? 30 cal GC's too small?

Standard .30 caliber checks are right for bullets under .318 diameter unless you have a custom mould made for larger ones.

I have a custom mold for my Mosin from accurate molds & Sage's .303 checks work well but they did not work on the LEE .312 mold . . . too loose.

I was looking at the lee 312 mold and hornady gc. I may hold out for a 314 die so it's probably 30 cal gc's for me.

.312 is usually on the small side for .303 Brit to begin with. Sage makes his .303 checks to my specs ex a FC III device. Surprised to hear they don't stay on a Lee shank though.

Kinda thinking the 312 is too small also. Wonder why lee doesn't make a proper size for 91/30s? Guess i'll save a few more beans and look for a diff mold.

Old Iron, 30cal GC's are what you need.

I originally bought the .312 LEE for my Mosin thinking it would work. At it's best it threw a bullet a hair over .312. My bore slugged at .313 so I needed a .314 bullet. I ordered my mold from Accurate at .316. Plenty of room to size.

What is the shank size on your .316 Accurate mold or bullet. If it is .297 I can fix you up!

You already did. I'm using your .303 check on my 200GR Accurate mold for my Mosin. Sized from .316 to .314 on a LEE push thru then tumble lubed.

Didn't type what I was thinking! What is the shank size of the Lee .303 molds?

Been using the standard 30 cal. Lyman or Hornady brand for years. Work fine on my mold. afish4570

Typically .285 +/-
Just like most 30 cal molds.

One is a .30 cal gas check. The other is a .303 Brit gas check.
Can you tell the difference? Either one fits a 30 cal cast bullet.
Once sized, either one is the sizing die diameter.

Sonnypie you make that check with the divit out of the side? Nice picture. Pigslayer said the .303 check was spinning on the Lee .303 shanks must be smaller.
