I bought a bunch of these bullets today at an estate sale. Are these custom? They are 308 caliber, and appear to be 150gr-160gr. I haven't weighed them. Did anyone ever manufacture bullets with this cross shaped tip?

The paper used for the background is messing with my eyes. Looks like a decent projectile.

Just looking at that background made me dizzy! Never seen that tip design on a factory bullet. I would be interested to know also.

The Sierra .30 165 HPBT Gameking has a tip like that. They shoot quite well.

Well, I guess the hard way is my way to learn things. Many of these bullets were tarnished or starting to corrode so I threw them in the wet tumbler with stainless steel media. The tiny pins got stuck in the open noses of the bullets. There goes a perfectly good batch of bullets.

Next time, use a citric acid bath to make them look new again. It's easier and faster.

Hope this helps.

I use citric acid in the tumbler too. The pins help knock crud off even faster. Unfortunately they also add the exploding fletchette tip. :-)

Guess you have no chioce but to load them, and shoot them.

I would but I'd be too scared of one or more of the pins coming loose upon chambering. The last thing I want is a hard stainless pin scraping my barrel at 2700fps. :-(

I think my final effort to recoup these will be to put them in the tumbler with no media and see if they vibrate back out. I've been cleaning tons of old brass and bullets from this estate sale.

I know it's a slow process, but try holding a bullet against your tumbler while it's running, with the nose down, and see if the pin vibrates back out. I've done this in similar situations and it's worked on most of them.

Hope this helps.
