I like 8.5 grs. unigue with a 250 grain keith style semi wadcutter. Very accurate and mild load in the magnum cases. Just remember there is a little more space in the magnum case than in a 44 special case. So it will take a titch(scientific measurement) more powder to get the same results. Bullseye also works good for real light loads.

Should I use large pistol or magnum primers? Skip

If you are not using H110 or W296, you never need a mag primer. You can use 44sp data in mag cases, you'll just have lower vel & pressures.

Good answers but you never need a mag primer for anything in the .44 mag.
I use nothing but a standard primer with 296.

In 44 magnum cases with standard primers (I mostly use Fed 150s but CCI300s work just as well) the mentioned 8.5 gr Unique load with a 240 - 250 gr cast bullet is a good one. I prefer the Lee TL429-240-SWC (cranked out enmasse in a 6 cavity mould) cast soft over 5.5 gr Bullseye. That pretty much duplicates the factory 44 SPL load but in a magnum case. It is quite accurate in my .44s as well.

Ditto on Larry Gibson, and 44man.

I have used and like both the loads mentioned by Larry.

Great info. Got brass in the tumbler and I'll see what I can find Tuesday locally for lead. Looking forward to reloading .44. I love this new SBH.
