Hey guys,

This may only be the case for the local Gander Mountain store but they were selling primers today for as low as $1.29/100 in brick lots. I picked up some Remington 5.5s and have never used them. I usually use CCIs...any comments on the Remingtons?

I believe the 5 1/2's are remingtons magnum pistol primer. I used a bunch years ago in .357 mag loads with 296 that I got cheap, worked just fine for me.

Stopped at the GM in fargo and they made Cabelas prices look like a fire sale.

Don't remember what the primer were but they wanted $29.99 for a bag (100cnt, winchester) of .41 mag brass vs $20 elsewhere. $40 for a lead thermometer that is $29 anywhere else. Needless to say I didn't spend a dime.

I went back today when the regular crew was on duty. Seems they only had the sale prices on the small pistol mags, some large rifle mags and some CCI benchrest primers. Five or more years ago they were selling primers at great prices because I believe they were experiencing some cash flow problems...I thought perhaps that was the situation again. Apparently this was only this local store. But I thought 4,000 more couldn't hurt....

I spent $50.10 today for 2000 Winchester small rifle primers. Hopefully I'll get them all loaded up into 30 Carbines before the wife finds out. Then I can tell her I can't take them back cause they are "sorta used".

Then I can tell her I can't take them back cause they are "sorta used". You don't even need that excuse. In most stores primers and powder are non-returnable items.

I think GMs biggest mistake is when they sold their mail order business to Cabela's shortly before or about the time the internet became popular. They couldn't possibly make a bigger mistake than that one. I used to buy a lot of stuff from their mail order.

Guys, I've been told by multiple sources (I dismissed this "rumor" at first) that primers are going to be in very short supply for the next year. Check all the online sources and you'll see that many primers are out of stock or low. I checked what I had on hand and went out locally and stocked up on what I was short on. No primers, no shooting.  :-?

I got sticker shock when I bought a couple hundred Remington #11 percussion caps a few days ago. Way higher priced than Boxer primers. They were marked $4.96/100. CCI Magnum #11s were marked something like $10/100.

Also palpitated when I saw that Midway has Goex black powder in their sale flyer. $22.95/lb. Plus an additional $9.99 shipping on top of the usual, plus $20 hazmat. Guess the flintlock's going to be a wall hanger...

Agreed, prices have gone crazy. I thought $125 was nuts for 5000 CCI BR2's, I've seen them today on the net for as high as $170+!

Goex is up by about three dollars if you buy 25 pounds

Thanks for the link!

Their prices aren't bad at all when you get to the 25 lb. range. Dunno about storing that much BP, though.
