What would a reasonable velocity goal out of a Ruger SBH .44 mag. 7.5 barrel and the LEE 310. I've never loaded something this heavy in the .44. 15.5 of 2400 gave me 1130 fps yesterday.

just me i found excellent accuracy for punchin paper at 15-20 yards with ours with 5.8 gr bullseye. but this is no real hunting load either.

That is one of the better boolits. I use 21.5 gr of 296 and a Fed 150 primer I don't have exact velocities but it is north of 1300 fps. A 320 LBT will do 1316 with the same load. I have a 10" barrel.
That boolit will do 1" or less at 50 yards.
Do not look for velocity, look for accuracy only. You will find it shoots great.
The same load shoots wonderful from a Ruger Hunter with a 7-1/2" barrel.

Do you use the top or bottom crimp groove? I've been using the bottom with the thought the boolit won't have to jump as for as it would from the top groove. I mounted a Nc Star scope on it today. I know it's cheap and will likely fail. But I've never shot a handgun with a scope. Saving up my Scheels points to get a Burris or something better. I shot today with 16.5 of 2400 and the 310, if I do my part it will around an inch at 50 yards and ran 1190 FPS at 15 feet from the muzzle. Scope shooting is new to me with a handgun.
Thanks

I dont use the lee but with mihecs 433-300 I get very good accy with 18.6 grns of imr4227 crimped in 2nd groove and wlp primers. I imagine vel. is around 950 to 1000 fps froma 5.5" bbl . With a 300+ grn boolit it'll go thru about anything I'm likely to shoot at. never owned a chrony always started from bottom and worked up to max accuracy load and dont worry about velocity much

I also use the lower crimp groove but it is not jump that concerns me. It is lower pressure.
A boolit does NOT have to be close to the forcing cone. My BFR 45-70 is the most accurate gun I ever shot and I need a flash light to see the boolit down that huge cylinder. I found that a boolit does not have to be at the end of the cylinder.
An inch or so at 50 yards is great, you are doing very good.

Any 4227 in the .44 is super accurate but I will no longer use it. For some reason it is sensitive to heat in the .44. As the gun warms, pressure and velocity will climb fast and dead flat primers show up.
I tried load reduction with no luck when I shot IHMSA, same problem. Velocity would increase so I hit lower and lower at every target. At 200 meters I hit 50 meters short in the dirt on the last ram with 16 sight clicks over normal.
The powder worked fine in other calibers but it does not go near my .44. I changed to 296.

I agree. I had similar results.

You really need to test the CCI 300 and the Fed 150 with your loads. I will bet you will get smaller groups.
