Retired military dogs need a home.

They're well trained, obedient, and would make good pets.

Well I give this advise, my dept only gives its old k9's to officers that were in k9 or that are approved by the k9 commander. It takes a while to let the aggressiveness grow out of them and bites are not uncommon and they often do not take very well to other dogs. But they do make very good dogs after a while.

Just FYI

I have been under the impression that many places puts the canine down if his handler retires anymore.
Back in the late 60's a retired german shepard, a friend of the families adopted came real close to killing my little sister. I had just finished petting it when she tried to pet it and it bit her one time. It's lower teeth grazed her jugular bad enough that they would not even wash the wound.
The dog was put down after the required time to watch for rabies.
