I picked one of these up for my son a few months back. Tried the LEE 160 gr TL bullet and 2400 powder which gave me 10" groups at 100. These bullets were sized .312. I am planning to use same buullet and size them .314. Wha I am wondering is what is the best bullet/powder combination for these rifles.

First off, you need to slug your bore then begin by casting/sizing to to .0015-.002 over groove dia. My 1938 Tula MN 91/30 slugs as just a hair under .313 and the Lee 312-155-2R (same boolit at your TL but with conventional lube grooves) over 20.0 gr. 2400 produces consistent 3" (iron sight) groups at 100M. As has been previously discussed here, MN bores are notoriously inconsistent. I've seen reports of everything from .310 to .316 with somewhere around .313/.314 being the median.

As mentioned, it's best to slug the throat and bore to determine the correct size bullets. Howver, I have shot a lot of .314 cast bullets in MNs with good, bright shiney bores with very good accuracy. Yes there are many with larger bores but most are in the .311 - .314 range.

Assuming you are TLing them with LLA and using the Lee sizer?

2400 is a good powder for that bullet as is 4759, 4227 ans 4198. You might try starting at 14 gr with any of them and using a 3/4 gr dacron filler over the powder. Work up to 18 gr or to where accuracy goes south in a radical manner such as "10" groups".

found a good mosin with a good bore. tryed different loads, the best I found for mine is 19.4 gr 2400 and a lyman 311413. that is at 100 yds.

i never never never got shiz from a 160 gr lee bullet. the 180 and the 155 excellent

Years ago I used to shoot a Mosin fairly regularly. The best load I ever worked up went into a ragged whole about .6" across at 50yds off a bench. The bullet was the 312185 Lee sized a little over .313.....................

Couple targets with my Finn M39 with issue sights and my tired eyes at 100 yards. 1st is with the C312-185-2R over 5744. The 2nd is with the 314299 over 4895 with a dacron filler with last 10 shots after adjusting sights being a 100 - 8x (two 10's at 12 & 3 o'clock) .
