Hello, gentleman (& ladies)

Long time lurker, first time poster - just finished up my first work on a Tupperware stock. Was looking to raise the comb on a scoped 10/22, and had an extra synthetic stock lying around. I usually prefer wood furniture, but thought I'd give it a shot.

Cheekpiece raised:

Preliminary sculpting:

Side panels laid in:

Smoothed and final shaping:

Textured rubber coating (and showing my sanding errors!)

Definitely functional, but being up in the frozen north, I rushed the final shaping to a few 15 minute runs out to the workshop before my fingers refused to cooperate.

Plastic is a much, much different animal than wood, forces you to think in odd ways. Ah, well... learned for next time.

Looks pretty good to me!

Coincidentally, I am about to undertake a similar project for a scoped Lee Enfield #5. However, I don't want to alter the stock so I will have to make a strap on/lace on type comb.

I am debating whether to make it out of heavy sheet metal (cushioned and covered), wood or plastic. If sheet metal, I will want to cover it for sure and possibly if plastic. What did you use for your textured rubber coating?

I have a Pattern 1914 with the same issue. I had a leatherworker make a padded lace-on for that one.

The rubber coating is an industrial coating. It's not undercoating, it's not rock guard, it's a rubber coating called "hi-build"... available for siphon sprayguns ("Schutz guns") or in an aerosol.

It seems to be wearing just fine so far.
