I've found that an aluminum foil cover greatly reduces oxidation and the need to flux, while casting.

Works good, I put foil on my 10# LEE pot 25 years ago and I'm still using it.
It really helps with the cold start melt time
Talk about cost effective!

Alum pie plate and the alum bread pans work great! Dollar Store or Thrift shop.

I use a lid that was cut out of a tin can. It also makes a shelf for warming up molds. When I want to preheat ingots I put them on the top of the pot.

Wow! What brand of foil lasts that long? That is amazing! I only get about 20 sessions out of mine and then have to get a new piece. :kidding::kidding::kidding:;)

electricity if you want to get real jooish about it is a additional cost to casting. i cannot believe after 3-4 years of casting i didnt think this stuff would have saved sooo much money trying to melt my shwing in the pot.
