i have always shot jacketed bullets in my hk, with the ever increasing cost of jacketed ammo i would like to save the good stuff and shoot cast. been casting for years ,never read of anyone doing this. my concerns are reliable cycling and leading.

You shouldn't have too many problems, i've been doing that for quite a few years now. Use a boolit that fits and has an alloy suitable for the pressure you'll use.

Shouldn't be a problem my Hakim, M1 Garand and all of the AK's cycle fine with cast and never had any leading.

Diego--

Maybe the fired cases won't eject into the next time zone using mid-range cast loads, too. :-)

I've shot cast loads in my Spanish CETME with no problems. In fact you'll probably won't see the chamber fluting impacting on your fired brass when you switch to cast. Also the delayed Roller Bolt isn't impacted by the gas pressure change like the Garand is.

for years, i shot lyman's 200g 311334 with 29.0g of rx-7 in my brass deflector equipped hk-91. it functioned flawlessly, the spent brass landed at 2 o'clock 3-4'away, the flute marks on the brass were faint, and the accuracy was "minute of gallon milk jug" when fired offhand at 100 yds.

i didn't have a chrono at the time, but i guesstimate velocities at about 1800 fps. a nice feature of the load/gun combo was the fact that i only needed to clean and necksize the cases...i think i could thank the mild load and the fluting for that benefit.

My M1, Hakim, and Saiga 308 run fine on boolits!
