I picked up a like new set of Ideal 454190 mold blocks today in their original box. Do you guys like this mold? I'm guessing it takes the small handles?

Swampman:
That was the original boolit for the 1873 Colt cartridge. If you have one that drops .454, you are very fortunate. If it is a newer version, it may drop smaller than you want for a .454 bore. If you are loading a newer 45 Colt gun, the smaller diameter may not be too bad.
I load and shoot a Uberti "Evil Roy" saa model. It eats the .452 boolit very well.
Checks the throat i.d.'s in your cylinder, slug the bore, and you will know exactly what your 45 needs.

The old IDEAL 454190 produces a fine bullet (right) for my large-throat S&W 25-5s ! :)

I have a double cavity 454190. Had some trouble early on with it leading my BH. Softened up my boolits and moved to Felix lube. Now I'm happy with it. My double cavity takes large handles. Its a great 100 yard boolit for paper targets and such. I would choose another boolit if I was hunting with .45 Colt.

I cast 454190 a lot, I have a 4 cavity and a 2 cavity and run both at the same time which makes a large pile of boolits in no time. I cast wheelweight junk lead and shoot at close and fast steel targets. Mine are resized to .454" with Alox and shot through several 3rd gen Colt SAA's. The only way to get this boolit is to cast your own, it is authentic to the American frontier. You'll be happy with yours I'm sure.

I'll be shooting mine in my custom stainless .45 Ruger Blackhawk.

All my 3rd gen. Colt SAA love this bullet sized to .454 and water dropped wheel weight alloy. Its my 100 yard bullet out of a 7 1/2 SAA and a 12 in. Buntline with 9 grains Unigue. Only a very slight trace of leading that is easily cleaned with a brush and Hoppes 9. It produces 900 and 1000 FPS respectfully in those guns. I would have no hessitation to hunt with it. When I don't need the power or recoil, 6 grains of Red Dot gives me close to 800 FPS for 50 yard or less shooting in my 5 1/2 in. Colt SAAs.

I use a lot of Unique, I'll try 8.0-9.0 grain of Unique.
