Couple weeks back I picked up 2 different NIB 6.5mm lee custom order molds. I dont' have a 6.5 but I've passed up a couple over the years because I hate the cost of 6.5 bullets.
Saturday I was digging through the misc shelf at a trading post and found a set of RCBS "6.5 U.F.O." dies. 3 Die set with FL, and NS dies and a seater, plus 2 tapered expander dies for 22-6.5. Inside there were 2 formed 243 brass. 1 that had been formed in a die (round shoulders) and 1 fireformed. Looked like a 40 degree shoulder. The price was right, and I like odd stuff, so I took em home.
I emailed RCBS yesterday asking if they had any prints or info.
Got a reply today, they were 1 off custom dies made for Wes Ugalde in 1990.
I wonder if UFO is Ugaldes Flying Objects?

I'm thinking a 22" encore barrel. I wonder if PTG has a reamer....

Now that is a cool little story. You've got to put those dies back in action.

I'm looking aroud to see if anyone has the original rearmer print on file. If not, it'll be going to PTG for a reamer and I'll be making an encore barrel. Was thinking about a barrel for the savage, but I think a TC would be appropriate.

Sounds like me. Buy the mold & dies for a rifle . . . then I have no choice but to buy the rifle!
Makes sense to me! LOL I really have done that!:groner:

Doc,

is this a wildcat pre 260 remington? sounds like it could be interesting. Is it something that you could buy a 260 rem barrel for a savage set back and run reamer in?

From my first measurements of the fireformed it's more or less a 260 Rem Improved. But predates the 260 by 9 years. A 260 barrel would be a good candidate to set back and ream.

After recalculating hoop stress and looking at some rough dimensions I don't think I'll be building a 260 on an encore. 60k psi is pushing it for a stub barrel with the wall thickness I'm planning on.

Looks like I need another rem 700
