I'm not much on " Black Rifles " either.

I hunt the hardwood bottoms of Alabama. This color scheme is about ideal for the area I hunt in.

These deer seem to be getting smarter every day, If they top over a hill and catch a glimpse of anything " shiny ", they will turn a 180 and they are GONE ! !

You'll swear that there were no deer on that day, catch is....they saw you before you could see them.

One thing I believe is important in a good camo scheme is the use of muted red. The deer in our country have a shade of red to them all year. In the spring / summer, they are REALLY red and in the fall, they have accents of red all over. Same with squirrels and some birds. Millions of years of evolution cannot be wrong. Good on ya for recognizing this and incorporating it into your scheme.
Excellent job.

Ben I like it. I have a 30-06 with a fiberglass stock that I have been planning to do this to. Ofcourse you are ahead of me as usual. I would be interested in the steps you took to do this as well as the paint colors used, etc. That is too much trouble for you to go to for me only but if enough interest I think we all would learn from your project. Nice job as usual. I see from the post up in the hunting section that it paid off with a nice buck.

You bet, I'll see if I can go over the steps here in a few days.

You think the deer will see this one ? ?

I figure.....if you lay this one down in the woods, you BETTER remember where you put it ! !

No doubt about it Ben. You have done it again. Nice job. I notice that the stock is done a little differently than your Tikka. You are right you best not lay it down and walk away!

Yes, slightly different. I'm still experimenting.

Many thanks for your generous comments,

Well I have to admit... that IS the first #1 that I have ever seen painted. I started painting guns back when it wasn't COOL. I started with my Rem 1100 because 1, I duck hunted with it and it looked pretty bad anyway and 2, when camo'ed the ducks wouldn't see it either. Another hunter saw it once against a tree and said he thought it was a stick. Now it's the norm but I just can't bring myself to painting the beautiful wood on my #1's. Each to his own. But nice paint jobs.

This one had one of those gray laminated wood stocks.( I thought it was pretty drab looking ) I don't think I could camo one of my pretty walnut stocked # 1's.
