I've been casting for a while now, Mostly pistol stuff. A recent swing in my collecting and shooting brought me around to military firearms appreciation. Love 'em and to be able to shoot recycled wheel weights is a bonus.
I do have the Lyman Cast bullet manual. That has a few for each cartridge but not nearly as many as I'd like. Is there a better publication for cast bullets and rifle reloading data?
Thus far I've used Alliant Green Dot powder with pretty fair results. about 12~13 gr in .303 Brit and 30-06
Can someone suggest a bullet/load combination that will safely cycle an M1 Garand?
Thanks to Gunner D I have a supply of good cast bullets to get me on track.

BruceB has covered Garand loding several times. Use the advanced search function to find this information and read some of his postings. I did a search to maybe post a link for you but too many things turned up related to this...Ray

Keep an eye out for older Lyman Manuals. Both the reloading books and the cast bullet manual. Also some of the other manuals like Hornady show some lead bullet loads. Ken Waters 'Pet Loads' also gives some cast info. Keep watching this site and maybe check out the Cast Bullet Assoc. What fun! Cp

Good advice here! Get all the manuals that you can get your hands on. E-bay is a good source for older ones. Lyman and Lee have pressures that is helpfull. Don't read just once, re-read periodicaly. Use this forum as a reference source.

Quickload. I wouldn't be without it. That program has saved me many times its price over in saved gunpowder, lead, and time.

What is quickload? I did search the cast load database. NICE. Appreciate someone's effort. I also saw the section on the M1 Garand loadings. Happy happy.

Quickload is a computer program that lets you assemble pretty much any combination of cartridge, bullet, powder, gun, etc. and see what will happen before you pull the trigger. It's far from perfect but mighty useful.

It's sold by Neco, inc. You can find them here:

The Accurate Smokeless Powders Loading Guide Number Two is an excellent source of load data for cast and jacketed projectiles.
