So I thought that I had a fella out in SouthDakota lined up to do the thread and chamber on my .429 rifle barrel to put onto the '98 LR mauser action I've been stewing over for the past few years. Well, turns out this fella ends up behind the ball a bit, and I respect him for NOT bitting off more that he can chew, but he has declined to do the work.

What I'm looking for is a machinist/ Gsmith to thread the barrel blank that I have (1.175 OD at the shank) for installation into my '98 LR mauser action. I also need that barrel then chambered for .444 marlin (but rimless), so that I can work up loads in ".429 Express" or ".444 Rimless" as it were. I am not in a hurry, but a recent google search of Gsmiths in the Metro area wasn't promising (except Ahlmans in Faribault, MN and they run extra pricey in my experience).

I wasn't going to need to do the FFL transfer all over again as the barrel alone was going to change hands and I would be setting the Headspace by fitting case length from the blown out .30-06 cases I'd be fireforming.

Any ideas or referrals?

Not really advertized on their website, but they do top rate gunsmith work, and I have always found their prices to be reasonable.

If your willing to mail it to Texas contact Ron and I am sure you can work something out.

That is going to be pricey.

The reamer and headspace qage...do you have one already?

If not, the gunsmith will have to order them and that cost would be reflected in the price.

In this neck of the woods, barrel change outs and chambers run around 300 bucks.

I'd offer to do it for you, but I am already into March before I could even think about it.
