Hey I live in KC Mo. maybe we should make it a group thing to buy, I'll pick pick it up, then we'll need to figure out how to ship it to everyone?

For $500 freight I could drive to KC and get it myself!

Looks like a fair price, but IMHO not a good enough bargain to mess with it. If I actually lived near KC I might consider it... Or if I was starving for lead.

900 lbs ofnlead doesnt take up that much space. If it were melted down it could go into about 13 USPS boxes for $150 or so in shipping. Melting those hunks of lead will be a bear, though. I once turned down a 2400 lb piece of lead off of a crane because I couldnt move it or melt it.

It's much easier to just use a Skill Saw with a carbide blade to cut big chunks of lead into managable sizes. The saw goes through them like a hot knife through butter. You just lay out a big blue tarp to catch all the shavings and melt the shavings into ingots, too.

A crane counter balance would probably require a chainsaw to cut it up, but I've heard that works, too. I've used the Skill Saw numerous times myself and it works great.

Hope this helps.

The Skilsaw works OK if you can cut through it all the way from one side. If not, it is a real bear to turn over leavy lead and get the angle right so it matches up the cut on the other side. I have cut up two 1600 lb boat keels, so I know!

Finish the cut with a handsaw. A carpenters saw works pretty well if you take long enough strokes so it can clear the chips.

Used their own freight calculator to see what shipping to the west coast would be. Shipping = $937.89.

At $900.00 starting bid for the lead alone and it's not much of a deal and it could of course go much higher, it is ebay after all.

Top that off with the fact that you really have no idea what alloy it may be. We only know that it was used as fork lift counter balance weights but it could have been poured from anything and everything and probably was.

It's at the price where you could just order what you want from RotoMetals and get free shipping AND know exactly what your getting.

With shipping, about $1.40 per lb.. Not really that bad a price considering what lead is going for.

Shipping by common carrier would probably be the way to go. Next time I'm at my local forklift repair I'll have to ask if they have any lead hanging around.

This may have been one of the most useful things I've seen in a while. There is a guy locally who does forklift repair. He must have three dozen that haven't moved in years. Maybe he will part with some lead.

McNeely Enterprises in Az. is still selling the reclaimed lead shot ingots for $1.40 plus shipping. They use USPS flat rate. Great alloy for casting.
They were a vendor here for awhile.
