does anyone know if there are any barrel manufacturers who make short or no chambered barrels ready to fit on a mosin action. it's a pain not having access to a decent lathe!

You need a lathe since Mosin barrels rarely line up when swapped from one receiver to another, they often are at least a quarter turn out of time and the extractor groove must be cut after timing the barrel to the receiver....
What sort of project do you have in mind? If you want to replace a tired barrel with another in the same caliber it is far cheaper to pick up a better rifle!

And no, I'm not aware of any barrels available pre threaded since they would need lathe work anyway.

been thinking about a 44 mag, 45 colt 454 casull, or even a 500 mag (more likely special due to pressure). perhaps a later project for 45-70 or 450 marlin!

I think an Enfield would be easier.
Their original of the Lee Enfield was 45-70
