I have been reading a lot about fill. Where does one get Dacron fill? I have read that some use cotton balls, corn meal. ect. to fill space between powder and boolit. I am thinking about using fill in my 30-30 loads to increase accuracy.

I don't know if it will help the 30-30 unless you use small amounts of fast powder.
I get garnetted polyester fiberfill at Jo-Anne Fabrics. Nice fine strands.

Here, check this "sticky" out, especially Larry Gibson's posts on Dacron.

Just because you use a filler, you won't necessarily get better accuracy. Lots of other factors involved.

I got mine at a fabric store ... about a 1,000 year supply for maybe $3.00

Store by name in my location: Joann Fabric and Craft.

Think you are probably wasting your time with fill in a 30-30. For standard cast loads you are pretty much 3/4 or more case full powder wise. For fast burning powders like unique or red dot etc. you don't need fill period. Might want to concentrate on the boolit that shoots best. My 94 Win. shoots better with the ugly little 150 flat nose, Lee GC than with anything else Good luck~\

My 94 shoots the 311041 very well. I don't even bother loading anything else. Im pushing it to 2030fps with 29.0 gns of H335. A little peppy, but the jack rabbits never complain...........

That 311041 will shoot pretty well down to subsonic in my Marlin carbine. For under 1K fps Red Dot and Clays both work well, I use Unique to bring it up to 1300 or so, then Longshot and a Dacron tuft for up to 1650 or so, 2400 for a bit more than that, and then it's on to Reloder 7 and then Winchester 748 for 2150-2200 fps. These are the powders that have given me the best accuracy within the velocity windows I mention. YMMV.

Shot H4895 last week, with GC CB. Accuracy was good no leading but powder residue in the bottom of the bore. I used a bore light to check after each 5 shots, same stuff each time. Case is a little over half full. I think I'll try the dacron filler. It probably won't increase accuracy, but should increase fps.

I like Gear's methods and powders. Close to my loadings in 30-30.

there is a place for filler.
the medium rifle powders is that place.
combine it with a low brisance primer and you can greatly increase accuracy, and lower your shot to shot deviations, without loss of velocity.
remember that the filler needs to have a slight amount of compression and must touch both the powder and boolit.
it will also make the case capacity that much smaller.
i find one grain of filler is about equal to one and a half grains of powder increase.

runfiverun,

I too find that a 1.0g dacron filler makes the powder behave like it is 1 to 1.5 grains more than the loading.
