I've been thinking about buying some hardcast 185 gr. flat point gas check boolits and need a starter load using 2400 powder. I'll be using these hopefully on deer and like them because they have a huge flat point. Any help will be appreciated. This is a Beartooth boolit.

I love the various 180 grain WFN group buy molds in my 1894C. They all run about 186 - 187 grains lubed and checked in the alloys I use and have a profile very similar to the Beartooth offering.

.357 magnum, 187 grain WFN, .359 diameter, Carnauba Red lube. Alliant 2400 powder, CCI 500 primer:
11.5 grains = 1,428 fps average - 10 fps SD
12.0 grains = 1,489 fps average - 10 fps SD
12.5 grains = 1,544 fps average - 20 fps SD

Here's a typical ten shot 50 yard target with the 12.5 grain load (open sights, elbows rest, no bags), it measures 2.6 inches:

Now if you really want to spice up those boolits, try 14.5 grains of Lil' Gun for 1,732 fps average...

I forgot to say that I would be using these in a Ruger Security Six 6". Do you have any idea what velocity they usually get in a 6"barrel or so?

I've never chronographed them from a revolver... But based off of other loads I have tested in both platforms, I'd say you can probably drop off 400 fps.

I am looking for the same data. I essentially have the same boolit but from Cast Performance, 187gr. Anybody have data for H110? Marshall Stanton says he has loaded the BTB 185gr with 16.0gr of H110 for a revolver. But that seems awfully hot.

Yeah, 16 gr. H110 does seem pretty hot. I worked up to 16 gr. of 2400 with a 158 gr boolit and I thought the gun was gonna jump out of my hands. I didn't get any pressure signs though. They ejected fine and the primers looked good too.

I believe that load was stated as for rifles only. There is an awful wide spread in revolver strength.

In the load notes hes states it came from a Ruger Blackhawk. I don't think I'll be doing that to my GP100 though.

i use a 190gr RD boolit with 12.5 gr h110 in a gp100. excellent accuracy.

Hodgdon has data for a 180 gr jacketed bullet and H110/296 on their web site.
