Were any of the last 1895s drilled and tapped for a receiver sight from the factory? Not thinking about the one called the climbing lyman but the one like for a Win 94 or Marlin. I got a very nice Redfield sight recently and was needing to know about location for the mounting holes.

I have never seen an original D&T for receiver sights.

I think that the top loading interferes with the conventional side mounted peeps. There were
some large sheet steel side mounted ones that were VERY specific to the 1895 Win. I think
they used existing screw holes with special screws. One way fwd and one at the rear that was
a lock for setting elevation on the whole unit, pivoted on the fwd screw.

Neither original or modern reproduction Winchester 1895s come drilled and tapped for a receiver sight. Originals were factory drilled and tapped for Lyman Model 38 or 21 receiver sights as a custom order option. My Miroku purchased new in 2003 certainly was not receiver sight ready. I had to drill one hole in the upper left rear of the receiver to install a Parts Unknown Lyman Model 38 clone. The online instructions for the currently available Providence Arms Lyman Model 21 also state that one hole will have to be drilled and tapped, and they even include the tap.

I've seen several M1895s with conventional Williams/Redfield type sights, but think they were D&T post factory. I could be wrong if Miroku has changed their practice since I bought my rifle.

I installed a Providence tool Model 21 sight on my 1895 Jap Winchester and it had to have one hole drilled and tapped. They provided the tap with the sight. I like this sight and it keeps the rifle looking period so that I like its looks and I can shoot better with the receiver sight than with the buck horn barrel sights it came with.I bought this rifle new a little over a year ago and I had no holes drilled for receiver sights.

the latest Miroku 1895's are indeed factory drilled/tapped for a Williams. the first one i saw drilled/tapped was one of the 30-06 100 year carbines. i mean 100 year of 30-06 not 1895. i was surprised and thinking it was about time. it also shows them in the print catalog with the filler screws on the left side of the receiver.

None of my Browning 1895s were drilled/tapped. After adding the required holes I used Williams Foolproofs for the M71.

my jap made 95 takedown in 405 win came d and t'd. Don't know if it was d&t'd for Williams or if Williams made a receiver site for the d&t on the 95, but I have a Williams on it now.

no Brownings came drilled/tapped. i couldn't bring myself to do it to my Browning 30-40. i ordered a Winchester/Miroku .405 back in Dec. of '99 when i first heard they were going to offer it. it's not drilled/tapped either. since it came with that fruit rebounding hammer and tang safety i had no problem doing it to the .405wcf model.

The Miroku 1895 100 year anniversary rifle (1995) that I had was not drilled and tapped.
The 30-06 100 year anniversary SRC I had (2006) was drilled and tapped for a Williams style side mount peep sight.

If you were looking for something non traditional, I think a Sako peep site might work if you had someone make up a mounting plate and D&T-ed the bolt to accept the plate.
Height wise it's about perfect.
