View Full Version : Any interest in the Lee 145gr. 40 in a 6 cavity mold?

I would really like to have a couple of the Lee .40 cal 145 gr. 6 cavity molds. They only make them in the 2 cavity molds and I hate to eat the $150 setup fee by myself.

Is there anyone else interested in this mold so we could split up the setup fee?

Tim, PM on the way to you... I would be in for this.

I'm interested also, I cast a lot of that boolit, a 6 cavity would make things easier.

I would be interested if there are enough people interested in it to keep the price from getting too high.

I was thinking if we could get commitments for 10 molds, the price would be about $67 plus shipping costs.

That's what I was thinking also, 10 commits would break down the setup fee nicely. I plan to launch about 100 or so of this style boolit downrange at my local IDPA match Saturday! If anyone wants to try this, I'd be happy to ship a few to them provided they are in the CONUS, AK or Hi. :D

Is this buy going to progress? I got the Lee 2up version and it shot well in my Glock22 with a light charge of WST. Nice plinking load.

I would be in for 2 or maybe 3 molds, and starloader said he would be up for 2, is anyone else up for more than 1 ?

If so, we could be getting close to 10, which should be enough to go ahead with the order.

Tim, I would be in for 3 of these moulds!!!!!! Between you and me that is 6 moulds and with Gary, Billy and Ronbo at 1 each that makes 9.... Just one more for this to go..

I ordered this mold last week. I might be in depending on whether I can get good groups with it in a Smith & Walther 990.

MT Gianni, let us know how it goes. If you decide you want one, we can probably get the order going.

My gun seems to prefer the 175 gr.

So, are we going to try to go forward with this, or the 135gr NOE hollowpoint?

Ronbo256, I was kind of wanting to see how the 135 gr. buy goes. I don't think I want it if it goes brass instead of aluminum. Plus I really don't like the sprue cutters on the NOE molds because you need a mallet to break them. I really like the Lee six cavity style molds.

What would you think about a custom Lee mold in a similar 140 gr. 6 cavity mold?

If you run you mould hot enough and don't take so long to cut most any 4 cavity mould will cut the sprue with just finger pressure. Of course you have to wear gloves. I would be in on a LEE 6 cavity 40 mould.

I am out, my 175TC load seems to work a lot better for me than my swc load.

I would like a 6 cavity 140 gr mold.

It looks like we are close to enough.

Starrloader said he would take 3, and I'll buy 3 or 4 just to get it going. I figure I can always sell a couple off later if I need to.

I'll try and contact Lee and get the details.

Do we want to go with the current Lee 145 gr. Semiwadcutter mold in 6 cavity, or design a new 140 gr. truncated cone mold?

140 gr truncated cone for me. Non tumble lube, 1 lube groove, non gas check, not bevel base.

What Charlie said works for me.

I'd want the current Lee mold, if it is changed to a TC, I'm out. The only change I would like is to remove the small bevel baase from the current Lee design.

Count me in if you are going to duplicate the original Lee design, no TL.
Thanks,
Jeff

I'm only interested in the lee duplicate.

I would be interested in this as a Lee duplicate especially if the bevel was removed from the base.

Tim, has a design/style and weight been decided yet?... My preference is a 140-145 gr TC with lube groove and bevel base...

I contacted 45 2.1 about designing a light weight 40 bullet for high volume casting and reloading and this is what he came up with.

It is a 130 gr. semi wadcutter design. Any interest?

I think I'll start a new thread on this one.

I would be in for a 140/145 grain TC, with a lube groove and bevel base also. Basically a 6 cavity version of the LEE 90470, modified to a TC configuration.

little willie, what if we modified the above bullet to be a truncated cone design? It would probably weigh around 135 or 140 grains.

Id take at least 2. that bullet shoots well in every .40 ive owned but i just wont buy another lee 2 cav mold.

h1tdk00,

That would probably be OK, I don't want to stray below the 140/145 grain area due to fears of functioning issues.

Possibly (probably) off base but it's in the back of my mind.

Id like to keep it in the 145-150 range too.
