lee sizing kit???

Hey guys, I ordered lee's .452 sizing kit. I casted some 200gr. water dropped ww and after sizing them through lee's kit, they sized out to .452. Later on i casted some 250gr. air cooled ww and when i sized them in the same lee's sizer they came out .451:groner: I then ordered another .452 sizer kit and they still come out to .451 and .450.5 please help on this issue as it sizes too small creating alot more leading and lead splatter on sides of my New Uberti hombre :sad:

Then i ordered .454 lee's sizing kit and sized the same 250gr. air cooled ww and they sized at .453. Should i try shooting them in my New Uberti Hombre 45colt

What do the chambers and barrel slug at?

Have you tried shooting them as-is?
Are they out of round?
What diameter are they dropping out at?

Count your blessings. You can probably cast, tumble-lube and shoot them without any need for sizing.

Variance can be your alloys and when you sized after you cast. I have had excellent luck with lee push thrus, and have about a dozen of them. Agree with Rocky!

I have not tried shooting them as they are dropped out of the mold. They drop out at .454-.455. I have not slugged the chamber or barrel yet but i can push a bullet through the chamber that is .451 but when i loaded them and shot them they left alot more lead in the barrel and splatter on the sides of the gun.

Quit sizing them and just lube and shoot. Unless the unsized boolits won't chamber.

Ok i'll do that and see how things go. It's weird that the lee's sizer sized my 200gr. water dropped ww at .452 but it sized my 250gr. air cooled ww at .450.5-.451. Thanks alot guys for your help.

Dean,
The water dropped wheel wights should be harder than the air cooled ones, so you are getting a little "springback" from the harder ones making the diameters a little larger. My recommendation is again, try shooting them unsized. I believe, that generally, the largest diameter that you can chamber without forcing, will shoot the best.

Doughty, thanks alot for your reply too. I just loaded 50 bullets unsized and lubed. I'm gonna get to the shooting range and see how they shoot...

I agree with the others. Just lube 'em and shoot 'em as they're dropped from the mould. I have an Uberti 1873 Cattleman (that's it in my avatar to the left) and after casting about 400 .452's I dropped them through the chambers of the cylinder and everyone of them dropped through without any problelms. I then took one of the boolits and stuffed it into the forcing cone at the beginning of the bbl. and it would not go into it without some force. I then took one of my .452's and used it to slug the bbl. I don't have a micrometer but used my calipers and the grooves measured .452 so I won't size them. Just as soon as I get me some Win 231 pistol powder, I'm gonna load 'em up after tumble lubing and shoot them as they are. I did put a few through the .452 sizing die and they all punched through without shaving one bit of lead off. I think I've gotten my alloy down correctly so that the Lee .452 mould 255 grain RNFP drops them at .452 after measuring them with my calipers. I like the idea of casting, lubing and loading 'em up without ever going thru a sizing die. I can't wait to put 100 or so thru my Uberti .45 Colt clone. Best of luck to ya.
