Boolit for 7.5 argentine mauser

A fellow that works for me has a 7.5 argentine Mauser and want me to reload some rounds for him. Wants me to do it on the cheap so I told him let's go lead boolits. What I need is some help picking a boolit that will work in the above round. Does lee make a good mold for this round just thought that might be his cheapest way to go. I can trim and resize the 30.06 brass that will help him on brass that stuff is costly. So any help on this would be great. Next is to get him in to reloading and casting.

Not sure about Lee, but Lyman's 314299 works good for me (sized .313) with many different powders, as long as I keep them around 1600-1800 fps.

The 312-160 mold that I have drops at about .313, might work.

The NOE 316299 sized to .314" shoots like nobody's business out of my 1891 Argentine Rifle.

Swede Nelson had some extras from the recent group buy up for sale in the Vendor Sponsor Sales section.

While it is a more expensive mold, I think the results will be well worth the price over something from Lyman or Lee that will probably have size/fit issues.

i was in on that buy and love the style and i have just recently got a hold of a 1891 argie.
may i ask what your bore size is?
im have done a chamber cast and slugged mine and it runs at .312.5 so i will need to get hold of a h&I DIE in .314 or lap out my lee .311 push through.

If you've fired the rifle yet, measure the inside of a caseneck fired in your rifle with the small end of your calipers. Then subtract .001" from that measurement. The # you get is the fattest boolit diameter you can safely chamber & fire in your rifle with that brand of brass.

You might be surprised at how fat you can go. Mine will accept a .317" diameter boolit:shock: with PRIVI brass.

Since you want to go the cheapest way, Lee makes a 312-185 that they say is for the .303 British. Mine drops at ~.313" from ACWW, and works acceptably in most of my .30-31 caliber rifles.

I was trying to keep his cost down he's a working stiff just like the rest of us. So will the 314-299 work in 30-30 or other 30 calibers. If so I would by it myself and cast for him and cast for 30 cals I have since I have yet to do any 30 cal cast I like the looks of that boolit and swede still has some I just ordered a 311-299 from him to get started on 30cals. ..............Dang, from what I see of it you apparently have a VERY nice M91! I have 2 nice 1891's and they're my faviorite of all the military surplus rifles. One is all matching, right down to the cleaning rod and has a bore and groove of .302" x .312" with a .314" throat. The only negative is that the crest was scrubbed, and since it has no import marks it must have been a pre '68 import. It's stock is a blond walnut. The other has a mismatched bolt and was a post '86 import. It has a couple stock dings and dents but other then that it's a nice rifle. It's bore and groove is .302" x .311" and has the same .314" throat. As I received it, it had a small oval brass plate on the buttstock stamped, "R. Robertson".

I don't have any good photo's of the 1891's but this one does show the brass plate on the butt of the one.

The Lyman 311299 is a classic. I have used it since 1963 in 7.65 Argentine, 303 British and 7.7 Arisaka. Depending on bore & groove, it might work in 7.62x54R Russian.

Lee offers a mold for a 185 grain gas check design that should work for you and your friend. Before ordering a sizer, slug the bore and order the sizer .001" or .002" larger.

Hundreds of tin cans have succomed to this bullet over the years.

Brass? Expensive? I just checked and Graf's has it on sale for $34.99/100......pretty reasonable. With cast loads those cases should last for years.

Meterman thanks sent you email. Those are two nice looking rifles Jim and buckshot. Paul Edward looked that one up 312-185 2r nice looking boolit. He lives in Kansas I'll get him to bring that rifle down next time he comes pull a well for me and I will slug the bore. I will have to work him up a load for it might have to keep it a while gives me excuse to shoot it while working up load. Thanks gents. David

16-17 grs 2400 is about all the workup you need.
i use the 314299 also, the nose is 304 and too big for all my 30 cals, thankfully.
