Hey all,
I'm shooting them out of a ruger srh w/9.5" barrel.
How fast are you pushing the lee 400 gr .476 dia bullets. I've worked up to 19.5 gr of H-110 pushing it to 1075 avg fps. The max load listed is 20 gr of H-110 for a 405 gr bullet I'm my Speer manual. The 19.5 gr load shows no signs of pressure issues primers show no flattening at all.

I shoot the bullet out of the taurus raging bull 81/2 inch barrel with 20 grs. of 296. About 1150-1200 if I remember right through my chrony. Mild recoil and shoots well. Went up to 21 grs. but seen no difference, so I stuck with 20 grs. Deer don't seem to like them to much. :p

The only load I have tried in my Tarus is 21 gr. H-110 and the 400 gr. Lee. It worked so well I haven't tried anything else. I haven't chronoed it, but expect it's close to 1350.

I did notice once I hit 19.5 gr there was a noticeable tightening of the group. I think I'm going to bump it up .5 gr at a time to see how it works out. I did want to be at 1200 fps for this hunting load.

I use the exact same boolit out of my Super Redhawk. However, I've never bothered to chrono it,,, yet,,,! My Super is a 7-1/2" gun.

You can keep bumping up in .5 incraments till you find the sweet spot. According to Hodgdon.com you can go up to 23.3gr with a 405gr boolit.
My plinking load with red dot is just over 1000fps and groups ok at 25 yards.

Is anyone regularly pushing this lee 405gr plain base boolit over the 1200fps threshold without leading issues

We use PB, 420 gr boolits from the .475 at 1330 fps, just water dropped WW boolits.
Same alloy in my 45-70 at 1632 fps with PB.
Both with super accuracy and no leading.
I made the 440 gr .500 JRH boolit a PB, somewhere around 1350 fps.
Prices scared me off GC's and I have had excellent results without them.
I don't think there is a threshold because working with boolit alloys and hardness will change it all.
The .480 can be hard for accuracy and needs no expansion for hunting. I bet a plain old WW boolit, water dropped would be just great.
I shot this group at 50 yards with a WW boolit from a .500 JRH, yes a PB.

I believe I use 22.0 gr H-110 and a 400 gr Accurate
24.00 gr for a 385
and 26.5 for the 350
no leading and have not run them across the screens yet
I work for accuracy first then see what up for speed
I went as hard as wd hardball bhn around 30
harder alloys tend to be more accurate out of my gun at least from the limited exposure
I have had with them
