View Full Version : 35 Rem compressed load

I'm working on some handloads for my Marlin 336 in 35 Rem using the Ranch Dog TLC359-190-RF boolit with H-4895 and load data published by Ranch Dog. I'm having a problem loading these boolits when the powder charge gets close to filling the case and the load becomes compressed by the boolit. The problem is the boolit is springing back out of the cartridge case before I can crimp the boolit with the Lee FCD. The only thing I can think to do if I want to use these compressed loads, is to not use the Lee factory crimp die and roll crimp the boolits in the case as I seat them with the seating die. I thought I'd run this past you all before I resort to a roll crimp to see if there's another solution?

I really hoped I could find a good load with this boolit and Hodgdon H4895 powder. If I can't fix this in some way I'm probably going to switch to a different powder rather than roll crimp the boolit.

I'd switch powder. I don't like compressed loads.

I would also go to a slightly faster powder, so you do not have quite so much compression.

36.0 gr of 3031 with that one has worked very well for me and others.

Agree. 36-38 grains of any of the H335 flavors will also work fine. ... felix

What is it about compressed loads you don't like?

It breaks powder grains and I tend to get less accuracy past 100% load density.
