I was looking at an 18 cavity mold for 000 buckshot. The information on the page says it is .360 caliber, the 1851 Colt Navy revolver came to mind.

So will it work?

000 Buckshot is .36 diameter. Your 1851 Navy Colt needs a ball of .375 to .380 (better) to function correctly. Cap & ball six guns need an oversize ball to seal chambers and not fall out after loading.

Gotcha.

That chain mold looked like a good reason to buy an 1851 Colt Navy revolver from Uberti. I will stay with my .44 caliber Dragoons.

Good morning
Dragoons are great. Have a #2 Colt 2nd Gen and it is fun. But I have to say the 51īs are also alot of fun to pack about popping bunnies and close grounhogs with. Plenty of power for that and alot less powder & lead parted with. Find yourself a used 51 and give it a year ranging about. You may end up finding yourself with several and wondering why you waited so long.

Ypu can buy 0000 buckshot from Ballistics Products but it is harder than soft lead. I think it comes in a plastic bottle of 5 lbs shot. It comes out to a little less than what you would pay for the Hornady or Speer .375 balls. I just don't know how hard it is.

As sweet as the '51 Navies are, do yourself a favor and go to a '61. Hands down the most gorgeous cap & ball ever made. 2 Uberti's and a Pietta are all VERY accurate, though the Pietta required fitting the cylinder locking bolt.
