I'm looking at a Winchester 'Classic 94' I've had in my vault for sometime now and thinking I'm past due to give it a try.

I've worked with the Lyman #311041 boolit in a standard length 20" Winchester before and had no issue's with the lube running out (Apache Blue).

The Classic 94 has a 26" barrel. I'm wondering if the lube grooves in the #311041 will be enough to handle the length of the barrel? I have numerous lubes to work with.

Any one have any experience they care to share with me in regards to this barrel lenght and lubes?.

P.S. I will be working between 1,800 FPS and up hopefully to 2,200 FPS.

Thanks,

Murphy

The Lyman 311 041 with Full loads of R-7 or IMR-3001 and LBT blue or Gray 24
Great accuracy and sticky lube star

low numbered Winchester 1894 Rifle (26")

I think you will be OK if the barrel in your rifle is good and I assmue it would be.

Murphy, I have one of those rifles, and use the same Lyman boolit. Most of my loads are somewhat equal to what you've mentioned, although I haven't ever chrony'd them. I'm just guessing, according to tables in the loading manuals, that they are going out around 18-1900 fps. I use Javalina Alox for everything, and never encountered any problems. Those Classics with the octagon barrel are generally very accurate.

I have shot thousands of rounds through my 30-30 26 inch barrel 1894. Most of them were 311-041's double dipped with LLA. You should be fine.

I have used many thousands of that bullet in 30-30 rifles with barrels of every length from 16 to 30 inches and never had problems with either leading of accuracy. It is my favorite bullet for my Pedersoli Rolling block rifle which has a 30 inch barrel and I get groups of 2 to 3 inches at 200 yards with that bullet and 18 gr of IMR 4198.

Thanks for all the replies gentlemen.

I thought I may want to ask before delving into loading some test loads. I have Carnuba Red, Apache Blue (old stock that worked well in my standard 94') and some BAC is on it's way. So I figure one of them (if not all) should cover my needs.

I've pushed a lot of 311041s through 26" barrels and even up to 29.5" barrels and haven't run out of lube yet.....but then I use Javelina.

i have used a homemade b.a.c. in bbl's from 16 up through probably 28-29".
i normally use only one lube grooved boolits.
a star ain't everything, unless it's grey and shiney. but that ain't a lube problem.
