..............I don't have an AK but have a Romanian and Yugoslavian SKS. By no means am I an authority at all, but I'd think anything working in an SKS would find a home in the AK? 99.9% of my work with the 30 Rooski Shortski has been in a small ring Mauser I barreled to that cartridge (22" bbl). My one and only outing with cast in the SKS was with the Romanian. I simply used upper end loads that had shown excellent accuracy in the Mauser. All three loads were over 2,000 fps and used the Lee C-312-155-R.

I didn't expect much at all, and compared to what the Mauser would deliver accuracy was disappointing (10 rnds @ 50 yards = 4"). I had slugged the barrel and the boolits were sized for it. Or for the grooves anyway :-) Now, on the other hand those 4" groups were certainly better then what I thought I'd get, and it showed there was promise there. The loads appeared to supply comparable recoil and action cycling, and the groups WERE groups and not simply scattered holes.

I have only used one load in my AK as I do not shoot it much but the load gave me about the same accuracy as wolf steel case ball ammo. The load was 20 gr of AA 1680 with a Lee 160 gr GC bullet. Not that I ever found an AK to be what I consider an accurate weapon but they are fun to shoot now and then.

I have two SKS loads that shoot as well as ball ammo at 50 yards, yet cycles reliably without slinging brass 10+ yards away.

311413 sized .313 pushed with 12.3 gr Alliant 2400

308291 sized .313 pushed with 12.5 gr Alliant 2400

My bore slugs at .313 and both of these molds cast pretty fat.

The AK may take a grain or two more to cycle though.

Tried a bunch of different combos in mine with a Lee TL312-160-2R. Mine actually drops a little heavy and finishes at 173gr with a GC. 16gr of H335 produces reliable cycling and upwards of 20+gr. gives good grouping (for an AK) with a real sturdy, authoritive punch.
