Just the first effort. I don't have a good expander punch yet, but this is easily done. First de-rim just like the 22lrf then anneal, expand, seat the core and finally point.
100 grain for this bullet.

You sir have my attention. How did you expand the case mouth with out splitting the case .. OR did you cut it off? Inquiring minds need to know LOL

Haven't shot any because
1. that is the first one.
2. it is 28 degrees outside and the wind is 15MPH
3. Turns out you cant go shooting on X mas.

I trimmed off the shoulder of the 17 HMR with a small tubing/pipe cutter. For mass production it would be faster with one of the little chop saws that others have shown, but I don't have one yet.

The point was a lot nicer but the bullet slipped out of my fingers while I was polishing it and the tip got dinged up on the concrete shop floor. (same floor has broken three hardened punches due to the same clumsy fingers)

The 25 Cal caught me because I thought you were playing with .25 ACP swaging again. It's good to see these don't seem to be stretched as thin as those.

Very Nice work! (even with the ding :-) )..

Never was swaging for 25 acp. If you are thinking of the round nose stuff I was making, that was for rifle. 100 and 120 grain round nose out of my 257 Roberts for coyote and white tail. Very effective for the coulee shooting I did on our place along the river.

Unhh, yeah, you're right. My bad memory at it again..

Not splitting the case is pretty impressive either way!

Hi
These cases will expand bigger than many think. Some years ago I used to make 6.5mm rifle boolits from 22mag rf cases. I made .264 and .268 dia. I don't remember any case splits. I only used them in a 6.5 sweed and 6.5 carcano. I ran into a brick wall at about 2200fps. Up to that speed accuracy was ok with some bullet wobble. Higher speeds and accuracy went away.I even had one bullet break in half on the way to the target. Both halfs hit the paper. I also had a jacket strip off in the bore. I couldn't do what I wanted with them so I gave it up. A 25cal rifle should be much better for this .Much less expanding needed. Also with the much finer rifleing and smoother bore of a non military rifle things should be better.

Corbin offers dies to swage .257" rifle bullets from .22 Mag brass; no reason they shouldn't work with .17 HMR too. If you want to pay Corbin's prices and endure the wait.
