I am going to make a batch of 45/45/10 and the Johnson wax is not in any store arouns here.Is there any other paste form wax that will work? Turtle Wax doesn't have ingrediant list,I have a can of Meguires but I don't know the carnuba content.I'm assuming it is the Carnuba wax that is the desirable part.

the carnuba and paraffin.
there are others like tre-wax that could work also.
you can find the jpw at places like ace hardware, walmart, lowes, and many lumber stores will sometimes have it also.

runfiverun + (Yes to what he said.)

I was looking at Autozone the other day and they had several products that claimed to be 100% carnuba wax.

I didn't buy one and I have never used anything but beeswax so that is not a recommendation. Just an observation.

Y'all arent going to believe this and I certanly have been wrong before but the New Toilet bowl gaskets are polycrystalline wax.... A stiff version of JPW

I know they were a wax but didn't know what kind, those are around here. The nearest Autozone or Walmart is about 35mi from here,Home Depot is 45mi., the lumber yard I didn't look at. I might pick up a toilet ring(if it is cheap) and experiment:brokenima

most of the rings are slack wax or leftover mushy stuff and is not overly consistent in their make-up.
microcrystaline and parrafin wax is found usually at craft stores.
paraffin also at the local grocery store, in the canning isle.
and carnuba on the net or from randy rat.
the rest is just solvents [i'd go with mineral spirits its from the same hydrocarbon chain as paraffin]
jpw can be homemade from those ingredients and some experimenting.

A woodworking friend of mine use to like Butchers Bowling Alley Wax for his projects.
I never tried it because I could easily get JPW.
Try doing an online search for "Wood Wax (http://www.google.com/search?q=wood+waxwe&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a#hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=f2B&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&q=compare+wood+wax&revid=1413584842&sa=X&ei=dg_2Tpz9O4To0QGZhMz1Dg&ved=0CEsQ1QIoBw&tbo=1&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.,cf.osb&fp=55dcc7523cfd78c6&biw=1366&bih=642)".

Take care in that many of these products use a blend of bees wax. For example, Briwax is a non-building type of wax. It strips away previous layers.

If you really want to get down to brass tacks, you can buy carnuba wax that is pure.

Thanks for the links ,I figured I would have to go online for some of the stuff,I just mailed out my order for XLOX,so I'll have to get the other stuff going today.

I did coat some 40 cal bullets with some of my"chain wax" that I use for o-ring chains on my race quads, that is a parifin based coating that dries like Alox. I have several brands and just for S&G's to see how they work . I am waiting for them to dry ,to load them up and see what happens.

i'll bet those sprays will work for some applications.
we had a memeber some time back that was using some different chain lubes with different degrees of success.

http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/amh.aspx I've tried AMSOIL and it works in my .38 and .44 Specials. Haven't used any lately as I've been playing with my version of Lotak...

I have used all the products that are made by Amsoil for motorcycles. They are at the very top in performance.
After using the motor oil for 3 years and then tearing down my motor, we received a shock when all the parts showed no wear at all. The bearings were miked at the same measurement as when it was installed. Later David

Sonny has some good links to places to buy pure waxes (both carnauba & beeswax), but lets not forget that both of those waxes, along with several other good lube ingredients are available from forum member Randy Rat. Randy's prices are also probably less expensive than those from specialty wood working stores, so you get the benefit of buying from a forum member, AND lower prices!

Let me add this as I have been playing around with lube making for going on 5 years now.
I've used various products that contained carnauba but never the pure flakes. I use Lanolin in my lube and have become a strong believer in it.
I purchased some of Randy's carnauba flakes and was taken back by the ease of use and the small amount required to stiffen a lube while adding a product that will shine the barrel as well.
We need to support our member vendors.

Randy should have my payment as I write this already,so he should be getting it out shortly. The indoor pistol league starts around here in two weeks ,so I need to get some of my hard cast bullets lubed,They are already lubed with that hard lube ,but I want to tumble lube them to help out.Hopefully these recipes that I'm going to try will cut down on the smoke some.
