I got my 311-413 S in the mail today! I'm planning on using it at lower velocity (~1500fps) in my 30.06 as well as in my single shot 30-30. What handles do I need for it? Near as I can tell, I need the "old" lyman single cavity handles which don't seem to be all that abundant on ebay. I found this thread (http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?t=56554) on here regarding the KAL handles, which look pretty good albeit $48 shipped. Are there any other sources or something I should be looking for?

I've seen a handful of beat up single cavity lyman round ball molds go on ebay for 20-ish with handles...that may be the way to go.

Lee 6 cav handles can be thinned to work pretty easily, but will be a bit overlong, but should
work OK. They run about $15 or so new and are nicely made.

Once they are thinned, will they still work with a Lee 6 cavity? I need to order handles for my closeout 9mm 6 cavity from them, and I'll get 2 sets if they won't work.

It is an old ideal/lyman in the orange box with metal reinforced corners.

very nice,,,
i love my 311413 but mine aint as pretty as yours.
rich_.
i would go for a $20+ r/b mold with the handles and if you get one close to your 30cals you will have a slug mold for slugging your rifle bores.:bigsmyl2::evil:

I'd keep an eye out for a nice set of used ideal/lyman handles. I have picked up several on the auction sites with a mould...sometimes you'll find a deal that way, especially if the mould is a round ball or musket mould...somehow that makes the package of mould/handles a worth a lot less.

MT Gun 44 has a good suggestion...the Lee 6 cav handles. They are very moderately priced new at around $12-$15. and they are well made. The tangs/tynes are a bit too fat for the slots in the sides of the blocks, but the trick is to thin them down to fit. I've done it using a file which is a lot slower than a grinder, but I didn't like the risk of taking too much metal too quickly. Once fitted they will work well. Your bullets look good; moderate velocity 1500-1700fps is the zone in which the 413 does best. LLS

I've got a old pair of lyman small handles I bought recently that are too small for my large single cavity mold I bought them for. I'm looking to trade them for the large pair or partial trade.
