I recently found an old Lyman peep for my 70's vintage straight stock Marlin 1895, and an old Redfield peep for my 50's vintage Savage 99. In both cases, with the current front sight the peep was higher up off the receiver than I wanted, so I ordered some new Marble front sights of a height to allow me to lower the peep bar to near to flush with the top of the receiver. I haven't installed the new front sights yet, and am wondering if any of you have recommendations of how to give the nearly black finish on the Marble front sights a more "softened" blue look to better match the finish on the rifles. Any advice or recommendations are appreciated!

Maybe you could soak it in a mild acid like vinegar and then use some cold blue on it. Should lighten it up and give it a more rustic look. ;)
