Would a fiber over powder wad be a good idea with a REAL (lee Maxi) ball in A Knight .50 Rifle? I am using Pyrodex but can use the real black powder IF I have to. The REAL bullet I have is the 320 grain mold.I'm worring about the possible blow by of the slow ignition of Pyro. Would milk carton "wads" work,or do I NEED to buy some wads?

Pyro is not that slow, probably don't need a wad for that concern.
May want to try it though, may get better accuracy with it.

jhalcott, I always use a milk carton or tablet backing "wad" under Maxi-Balls or REAL's in my .50cal. Knight Bighorn with loose Pyro. RS or FFg. Does it improve accuracy? That's difficult to assess as I never shoot either without said wad. In other rifles, using the same projectiles and propellants in the same amount, I saw a slight improvement, perhaps 1/8" tighter groups @ 50 yd. Accuracy was never worse when a wad was used, however.

No, I use a lot of Pyrodex in my .54. It is not slow. It might be hard to ignite compared to BP but it does not burn slow.
