I have the Lee 452-228-1R....

Is there a radius difference between the Lyman 452374 and the Lee equiv?

the reason I ask is this....

When I load to the OAL of 1.272 with the Lee sized at either 451 or 452 (tried both), My 1911 70 Series Gov Model will not chamber these easily, instead staying out of battery.

They would not chamber until I seated them to OAL 1.195 . This puts the entire shank of the boolit in the case leaving only the radius of the boolit exposed.

So, I wonder, because I do not have a 452374, the standard RN 45 by all accounts, if there is a radius difference between the two.

This might explain the discrepancy in OAL needed to chamber in my 1911.

Anyone have both molds? Do you see a difference? My quess says there is.

Lee boolet is 1 radius, Lyman is 2 radius. Lee has to be seated deeper to chamber in most bbls.

That Lee boolit design isn't a particularly good one. A much better one is their TL round nose for 45's. It's much closer in design to the H&G #34 which is by far my favorite round nose for the 45, followed closely by the SAECO (or H&G) #265 which is a 200gr round nose with just a hint of a point on it. Both (or should I say all 3 including the Lee) have a shoulder between the round nose, and the driving bands, and I find that makes it very easy to setup the dies, I seat them the same way I seat a SWC, with just a fingernail's worth of driving band sticking out from the front of the case. I find that all the boolits feed great when seated like that.

Gasboffer and MikeS nailed it. The Lee boolit is fine for the .45 Colt or .45 ACP revolvers, but LOUSY in any automatic I've tried them in.

If you want the best of the Lee TL round-nose for .45 automatics and still have a mould that has two, real grease grooves and none of the bevel base silliness, get one of the Accurate Molds' 45-230L.

I thought this bullet left something to be desired.

I am sure I will have copies of these RN molds, soon. LOL.

I got this one here very cheap, and yup, it just whetted the appetite for more.

Wants: NO BEVEL BASE, 1 GG, RN .....Lakemoor Gunshow here I come....gotta get loaded up.

I want to see a print of that Accurate mold 45, though. I like the 452389 2 GG Buttonhead 180....I flip it reverse for WC in 45acp revolver....prints little clover patterns at 50ft from my 3 screw OM Ruger.

I believe NOE still has some of the clones for sale for the 45.
