This afternoon as I headed for the woods I tried to cycle my Marlin 336 30-30 to make sure there was a bullet in the chamber. Here on the farm all guns are kept loaded. Much to my chagrin the lever wouldn't move enough to open the bolt. Hammer works in all three positions and it did fire. But nothing more would happen. Any ideas?

Round could have slip out of the tube and under the lifter. Pull the tube.

When you do get it to cycle and clear, check the spring in the magazine tube for rust or gunk. [smilie=s:

I've gone through several of the videos, but none shows the removal of the mag tube. Ive got the bands and forend free but cant see where the tube is attached. I did remove the spring. The rounds won't come out through the front of the mag tube. help...

Make sure all the screws are tight.

Sam,

The screw almost jumped out and hit me in the head, not loose, just obvious. I forgot that you can look at something and figure it out without a Utube video. Like we used to. It still won't cycle but at least the mag tube is now empty.

Lose screws on a Marlin will tie them up every time. I tend to check mine before every range trip. Learned that the hard way.

Last time I left mine loaded the brass corroded or grew green stuff enough that I had a heck of a time to get the bolt open

I heard spring, how about follower? They are plastic in most and maybe dissolved a little and pushed into loading area. Pour some Kroil down muzzle and stand vertical for a day or so if one is still in pipe. Gtek

Thanks Jonas, I'll bet that's it I'll pour some ballistisol dow the barrel. I fired the cartridge, but it still won't open.

Sometimes when you take apart the bolt the extractor can be bent and it causes the action to bind. Could be a filler screw that worked loose or a piece of a cartridge rim, the tip of the firing pin etc. It would not be the Marlin jam that occurs when the action is open and a shell jams under the lifter and you can't cycle the action.

Have fun.

Max Get JB Woods Sporting Rifle Assembly Reassembly guide. Amazon it. I think Marlin owners has the schematics and a step by step with pictures too.

Thanks for the help fellas. The shell was coroded into the chamber. I took off the lever and had to tap it out with a sprue tapper. After a cleanup A-OK.
