I bought 400 rounds of this stuff last week and it arrived yesterday. It's Berdan primed in brass cases. Bullets are FMJ but lead core so OK to use at Kalipornia ranges and places in the national forrest.

I got free shipping on the order so total cost came out to $260 and change. That's $.65 per round. Since this was made for Iran before the take over and has been in storage outside of Iran, I didn't hesitate to buy it. Sportsman Guide was the outfit that had it.

SAMCO Global is the original importer of this ammo. They offer this deal (400 rounds at 55.9 cents each ($223.60))

They also have Iranian-made 8mm Mauser ammo at 29.9 cents per round (400 rounds for $119.60) if you have a Mauser to feed as well.

A report on accuracy and reliability would be very interesting.

If Iran ever used the Garand this ammo might be okay for the Garand, but if loaded only with recoil operated MGs in mind the powder and gas port pressure may not be suitable for the Garand gas system.

My understanding is that the DCM was selling it as well. Others have reported that it works well in Garands and is reasonably accurate...as good or better than the Korean 1970s stuff.

That's an excellent price on the 8mm; too bad I'm 8,000 miles from home.

The SG ad says it's noncorrosive, but I would get a second and third opinion about that. The safe thing to do is assume it's corrosive and clean your Garand accordingly. The Soviets loaded corrosive military ammo in Europe into the 70s, so being loaded in the 60s doesn't mean it's noncorrosive.

Here's the deal, the Korean stuff is supposed to be "mildly" corrosive whatever that means. I just wiped the bore with a couple of patches wet with water and murphy's oil soap. Then I dried it, hit it with Ed's Red and put it away. To this day I've never had a problem. I use the same process on my Ruskie Mosen Nagant and on my M98 when I shoot 1950s Turk surplus. So, I'll no doubt follow the same process with this Iranian stuff.

Mildly corrosive is like saying mildly pregnant.

Mildly rust, kind of like stain less. Gtek

The KA headstamped 30-06 is corrosive. The P** is not.

Someone here on the board posted a "corrosive" test a while back. They basically said to pull the bullet, dump the powder & then fire just the primer at a bare piece of mild steel & look for rust in a day or two. It seemed to make sense.

That is $.70 each!

I bough 3500 rounds of the LC "overhead fire" 30-06 ammo from CMP a few years back. Excellent ammo in my Garands and 03's. I mostly shoot cast in them though.

My buddy talked me out of the HXP stuff. He said it was junk. I picked up one can of it as they were out of LC that day. Nice shooting ammo! They let dealers buy pallets of it. The guys took it to gun show and upped the price a bunch. CMP was out way too quick!

The CMP has 200 rounds of HXP (many are finding LC and other makers in their cans) for $98.00 plus $11.95 shipping. HXP is good ammo, non-corrosive, reloadable brass, and usually comes in a good (or excellent) condition ammo can.

My new CMP $500 Remington 1903a3 put 5 rounds of HXP into under an inch at 50 yds from a rest. I love the CMP!
