I just ordered a New Lock n Load from Midway... Im Gitty!!! Sorry just had to tell someone :) I also ordered a Powder Cop Die. I will not be dealing with double charges.

Anyone know where to get shellplates on the cheap? The things are like 30 bucks each.

Are Lee Dies long enough to go through the tool head?

If anyone has some they would like to offload please pm me. Pistol only please.

I can't wait for the thing to get here.. Merry Christmas to me.. I have been extra good this year i guess.:bigsmyl2:

Congrats on the new press. I've had one for a few years now and really like it. I don't know of anywhere specifically that has shell plates on the cheap. Just checkout the usual suspects:

MidwayUSA (http://www.midwayusa.com/)
Wideners (http://www.wideners.com/)
Grafs & Sons (http://www.grafs.com/)
Midsouth Shooters Supply (http://www.midsouthshooterssupply.com/)
Natchez Shooters Supply (http://www.natchezss.com/)
Manventure Outpost (http://www.manventureoutpost.com/)

Congrats on the new "toy"!! I have a powder cop die on my 650 and it works well, if you look at it with every charge. What I prefer, and have on a seperate setup(also 650) is the RCBS lockout die. If you get a powder charge that isn't right it STOPS the press cold. Both work well, I just like the lockout die more. BTW, great Christmas gift.

Good stuff! You are gonna like that press!

As mentioned above, just the usual suspects for shellplates. I usually check out Midway, then look here for a coupon code.

jluch01,

The Powder Cop Die requires that YOU ARE WATCHING every round and make a determination, The RCBS LOCK-OUT Die does not, out of spec, it locks the press up.

just a general info item (but not the gospel):

Powder Cop for rifle loads
Lock Out Die for pistol loads

I have found some inconsistency with my powder cop die on 223 loads using ball powder. But at least I can see a no charge and a double charge will overflow the case in my circumastances.

The Powder cop die from my understanding was universal in reference to pistol\Rifle. Once the RCBS lock die locks up, How do you unlock it?

And this is why I shop with midwayusa.com- I emailed them and told them i forgot the coupon code.. they simply just credited the amount to my Midway Account.

Sometimes on my Dillon, the Lee dies are so short, I cannot use a lock ring to hold them in place. Instead, I wrap a couple of turns of plumbers teflon tape around the threads, so it will engage the press threads about a half turn, seems to hold fairly well.

MoonMan - Just out of curiosity what else do I have to pay attention to? I don't surf the adult pages with one hand while working the press with the other.

Brass in, Boolit in, Pull lever, Check the Powder Cop, Release the lever, Repeat.

And Im working on an audible alarm with a computer buzzer and a 9v battery.. I'll post pics when i get it fabbed up. I need the press before i can do that though.... HURRY UP AND GET HERE !!!!

Congratulations. I use a Dillon powder check sensor on my Hornady LNL just bend the adjustment screw to come in contact with the shell plate bolt down the center of the press. The lee dies I use are fine.

The Lock out die just keeps the ram from moving higher to prevent the cases from entering the dies. It is similar in feel to holding a 1" block on top of the shellplate and it hitting the bottom of the dies underneath.

Nothing actually locks up on the press. When it does activate, you can lower the ram to see whats up with the cartridge.

I could maybe see using a Powder cop on a long pistol cartidge full of powder 357mag or 44mag with slow burning powder, but those little guys like 9mm and 45 and even 38's that use a small amount of fast burning powder, would n't really give a lot of depth to see on top of the powder cop die.
