Recently got a good deal on a Chinese SKS. I notice that all the barrel mounted parts (sights, bayonet mount, rear sight) are pinned. Can anyone tell me if these parts are pinned only or if they are sweat on and the pin was mearly to hold parts in place during assembly. The barrel is also pinned to the reciever. Is the barrel pressed in and pinned or threaded and pinned? Thanks.

Pressed and pinned. No solder used, no threads.

What you have is a late production SKS made for the U.S. market I believe. They originally had screwed in barrels, but during the last part of their importation into the U.S. in the late eighties/early nineties time frame, started shipping the pressed and pinned models. They function as well as any of the earlier models, but are kind of tough to change barrels on unless you have a 12 ton press and the appropriate fixtures. They're made very much along the lines of the AK-74 and other stamped receiver AK's.
