Has any one remofed the drum on a CVA .45 cal Kentucky rifle barrel?
I want to put on a larger tang and before I start, want to know what to look for.

Are you talking powder drum or breechplug? I removed the powder drum but it was allot of years ago. I converted it to a flinter. I don't remember that much about it but I had no problems.

I want to get all of it out.
I was thinking of going with a patent bolster and breech.
I would still use the powder drum.

I never removed the breech plug before but I'll see if I can find the old powder drum and see if it shows anything.

Man I never throw anything away. I took the powder drum out over 20 years ago and still have it. Nothing unusual that I can see from looking at it except I had to use considerable force to remove it. The threads are fine but the flat edges on the drum were dorked up abit. It would still be usable but doesn't look so good.

Patent breeches are trouble. If you are replacing a breech plug, choose a different course.

Rick,
How about something like this?

Mostly I want to be able to clean the barrel. Mayhaps if I use a brass tang screw, the threads would not get worn out. I shoot a lot. I clean every time. I give it a good soaking.

I like plain ol' flat faced breechplugs. They are easy to clean, without taking things apart. A hooked breech like you show there, is a pain to install on a rifle.

I do like simple.
I can just visulize, twisting the breech plug and barrel removing it, getting the barrel retapped, and it eventually costing me more than a Green Mountain.
How do you clean it without removing it? I have considered trying tubing on the nipple.

Aquarium tubing will fit on a standard nipple. I usually don't remove my barrels except on the ones that are already hooked breach.
