just how rare???ruger mk II govt target model...6 7/8 ss

did not find it anywhere....
so here is what i know
ruger mk II
right side marked "government target model"
bbl is 6 7/8 round
target sights
stainless steel
checkered wood grips with vertical diamond at the screw holes.....


yr of mfg is 1993 bu serial number

but cannot find in blue book.......

so just how rare is it ?? or is it rare ??

You might want to go to the Ruger Forum and ask them. I have seen a couple in fact my hunting partner picked one up for his son. Check the serial number if it is stamped U.S. above it then it was issued to the armed forces. Ruger did release them to for public sales and they were very accurate. Rumor has it that the twist is slightly different from other MKII (1in15) but I have never measured it myself.

no mine is a "government target model"...civilian version
not a us stamped gun

did find that they were announced at the 1991 shot show, and mine is a 93.

but no book value listed for the ss....

The civilian version was released by Ruger in late '87 as the MK678G. Did a quick check and they were selling NIB for around $425.00.

that is the BLUED GUN...not the stainless steel...........( the ss was annouced in 91, mine is a 93)

I stand corrected Mike you are correct. Still should be a heckuva shooter, accuracy was supposed to be <1 1/4"@25yds. on par with the S&W 41.

I have a government target model 7 inch stainless with the box it came in .
The box label sez catalog # KMK678G .
The inside of the plastic hard case it came in has 4/97 imprinted in the bottom, if that means anything?
Mine has the same barrel and sights as yours but it came with black grips with the metal Ruger insignias in them.
Don't remember what I paid for it but it would be interesting to see what they are worth now.
Not that mine is gonna be for sale !

the first k in kmk is is stainless steel

the g in the end is government model
the flat sided competition model is a gc

i have two sources that said without the box or test target 375 to 425...
so it goes to a gun show at 400 and i'll take 375 or keep it...

so with the box and target figure at least 25-40 bucks more...

To answer your first question on rarity, it's not particularly rare or even scarce, the book says "many thousands made" of both the MK687G and KMK687G. Lowest Serial # known for a KMK687G is 217-33653, which is a '91 gun. Your $375 value is probably good to shoot for, it's not listed in the Ruger Collectors priceing guide. The lowest priced collectable MKII's are running in the low $400's.

I had a Gov model for a while a blued one and while it was very accurate it was no more so than my Smith&Wesson 22A
