Hi every one i am looking into getting a 200 gr hp for my 308. I would like it for deer sized game. does any one sell them or do you have to have one made. It doesnt have to be 200 GR.I would like to take advantage of the caliber. A 308 will throw a heavy bullet only so fast. If the hp came apart you would still have some weight behind it to cary it through. Any info would be great.

You would most likely have to locate a mold, I'd suggest the 311290 or the 311284 and have Buckshot or Erik hp the mold for you.

You might be interested in looking at this , it shows photos and test targets of bullets that I have hp'd:

that is some good advice LC
I have had work done by both of these fellows and must say they are both first rate
machinists
I have had numerous molds hp'd by Erik and a few sizing dies made by Buckshot
both gave excellent quality product and great return time

You might also look into using a Forster 1/8" HP tool. You HP the bullets after they are loaded. That makes it nice because you can have a multiple cavity mould and cast plenty of good practice bullets with harder alloy without the slowdown (some call it a "hassle") of dealing with the HP when casting. For hunting bullets simply switch to a softer malleable alloy for best expansion. I use the Forster tool with numerous bullets with excellent success.

The photos shows some 35-200-FNs HP'd and some .30 carbine with 313631s HP'd. With the correct alloy you don't want a HP deeper than 1/8 - 3/16" or 1/3 the nose length for use on deer. That comes from many years of using cast .30 cal HPs on deer.

You can have them made into a permanant HP mould or you can use the Forster 1/8" tool. Here is the 314299 loaded in the 7.62x54R HP'd with the Forster tool.

there are a couple group buys you might be able to get on, and ask for one or more cavities to be HP'ed.

Check the open buys and see. Also, Swede has 211284's available now, you might get a cavity HP'ed by him.
