I finally got a chance to get out to the range.
Rifle is a Savage 99C with Redfield scope
50 yard range / foggy and cold

velocity about 2000 fps

Good deal. Haven't loaded cast in mine, which is a .300. I need to try it soon.

With that 99's 12" twist you could get a little more out of it with equal accuracy....if you want to. You should be able to push 2200+ fps with the same accuracy. Suggest a slower powder; RL19 or AA4350 and start at 38 gr and work up in 1 gr increments. Loading density is high enough that a dacron filler is not needed. However, that is a nice load with the 3031 so if you're happy with that I definately see why, good casting, loading and shooting.

Love my 99C. It's a shame I don;t spend more time with it. But, at least some one is getting one of these fine rifles out to the range. Good on you!

Larry,
I think I am going to stick with this loading for now and see what happens out at 100 yds.
I may try upping the velocity but if I do that I will switch to IMR 4895

I wanted to see if the sized diameter affected accuracy and if so to what degree
0.308 / 99-C
#311413 / 170 gr SPITZER
30 gr. / IMR 4895 / 2000 pfs
sized 0.311
and
sized 0.309

STRAIGHT WHEEL WEIGHTS USED FOR CASTING

its obvious the 0.309 sized boolits gave a much tighter group. I was surprised at how much larger the group became when shooting the 0.311 sized boolit.
For this rifle the sized diameter DOES make a big difference.

Note the slight vertical stringing of the group from the 0.309 sized boolits

blue marking 0.309 sized
red marking 0.311 sized

What alloy?

AC'd or WQ'd?

BHN?

Once again, good on you! Seems to me we ahve so many people shooting undersized boolits that we automatically tend to think in terms of "go larger". Your post is an example of doing your homework and finding the correct fit for a given rifle/load/alloy/etc.
