I got a hold of some of this wax. It's extremely hard. It took over 250 degrees to get this stuff to start melting. I don't see how it can ever be mixed with BW (without it burning). I did heat it up until it started smoking, it had no petroleum smell.

I mixes quite well. I use just enough for a rich red hue in my lube. The carnuba in it really shines up a bore!

I asked a barkeep about that stuff recently and was told they no longer use the original wax product, that it was plastic...am I wrong?

I went to the distillery a few years ago and I thought they said it was NOT wax anymore

if it IS plastic, that would make for some really hard lube. :veryconfu

We should call Makers Mark and ask. If it's still wax, there's another reason for me to bring home a bottle! [smilie=w:

I've been collecting the red stuff off Maker's Mark bottles for a few years. The stuff on the recent bottles have been a lot harder to scrape off than before. I haven't tried to melt any of my stock yet.

I just opened a new bottle last night.:2 drunk buddies:
Man, I like Makers Mark. Its my favorite.

I sure hope its wax. I've been saving the stuff for awhile.

I went on the distillery tour last summer. I asked about the “wax” but all they knew for sure was “it comes from Indiana”. I could not see the OEM packaging of the wax. That free tour cost me $160. I might have to go back and see if I can take a closer look at the packaging.

We just opened one last week at home, IMO it's plastic.

I was in a friend/customer's liquor store a couple of weeks ago and came real close to buying a bottle........you know, just to test the wax. I 'bout fell out when I saw a handle was almost $55.

I had to settle for Wild Turkey 101 at around $40.

I can buy a bunch of Randy's Carnauba Flakes for $15.

It's plastic, I lit in on fire tonight. It dripped and burned like plastic.

HodakaGA, a half gallon of Maker's if $40 here in KY. WT 101 is about $18 for a fifth.
Guess it costs quite a bit to ship to to GA.

IMHO of all of the bourbon distilleries in the Bardstown KY area, Makers mark gives hands down the best tour of all of them.
